I was wondering if at all anyone served with my late father in Vietnam. He was with 6 RAR from 5 June 1966 - 3 March 1967. I have no clue what company he was in. I'm looking for that kind of information.
As I have the bare minimum. Would be lovely to see a photograph of him whilst serving. But I know that is a long shot.

Hello,
I am seeking advice on how best to obtain some details or particulars regarding my father who was a service member back in the 60's. His name was George BROWN but I have no other details for him. My mothers name was Dawn BROWN (nee BOWER). My parents separated when I was very young and I have had no contact with him since the 70's. I am uncertain if he is even still alive. I was born in the Terendak Military Hospital on 13/04/1967 whilst he was on an earlier deployment to Malaysia. I have an old photograph of him on the docks at Townsville Harbour when 6RAR left on the HMAS Sydney for one of thier tours to Vietnam so I presume that photo was in 1969 as I was a toddler in the photograph and we had obviously returned from the earlier deployment to Malaysia where I was born in 1967. If you could offer any advice or assistance that would be greatly appreciated, Justin BOWER

Hi Graham, this was sent to Gus from Eddie Blanch who was in 6 RAR with Gus. Eddie found this while he was on holiday in England. Cheers Marion.
Eddie and I are in England at the moment. We were planning to visit Jock's grave once we got back from Budapest. Unfortunately we are both a bit home sick and will go home straight from Budapest if we can arrange it. Our niece over here did some digging for us and got the link below from a contact in Dundee. It's handy having another veteran in the family with contacts. I'll get Eddie to ring you once we get home.
It may be of interest to 6RAR and/or someone may be interested in attending.
Copy the link into your browser.

I have some of his photos but wanted to know more about his time over there. He never spoke about it. It was a taboo topic. It affected him all his life.

Hi there,
My name is Katelyn Lawson
I am the grand daughter of Roger the axe lawson, or Dodge as he was also known. I understand that many of his army buddies travelled To Emmaville in 2015 to attend his funeral. Next year will be 5 years since we all lost him, and it would have also been his 72nd birthday.
I am organising a gathering of family and friends to travel back to the place we said our last goodbyes, to share stories, and celebrate the life of such a legendary man. The dates are yet to be confirmed, however, I would love for one of you to email me, so we can keep in contact and I can update you when dates and times are finalised. It would mean the world to me for his army buddies to attend such an event.
I hope to hear from you
Thankyou,

I served with 6RAR mortar platoon in Vietnam 69/70. I now live in the UK but never lost contact with my pals Barry Lloyd, Lyndsay Horton and Ross Mather. The four of us where sent straight to 6RAR from rookie training in Pucka. I was telling Barry last week about an old Digger who had passed away over here and he suggested I inform you. He was 2/10539 William Trevor Boughey and he served with 1RAR in Korea. He was 87 and passed away after a long fight with Prostrate cancer. I basically looked after him for the last 20 years as you would for an old digger. I had a thought that you may be able to help me find out what happened to three other pals of mine from Mortar platoon. Brad Wilson from Mount Isa, QLD, Rick Pearson from Thursday Island and John Chessor from Temora, NSW. I’d be delighted if you can or point me in the right direction. Best Wishes Vincent P. He was called up and served in Vietnam with 10 Pl D Coy 6 RAR, from 21/5/69 till he was killed in a bunker action in Phuc Tuy Province on 8/3/70. They emigrated to Australia in 1963 and lived in Melbourne. Frieda is Ray's only NOK in Australia and there's a younger brother who lives back in Scotland. Bruce Jones is seeking Ray Heffernan
Bruce Jones is my name but have never served. However between 1968 -1972 as a permanent officer of the Commonwealth Public Service employed by the Department of Army at HQ3Task Force/ North Qld Area,Lavarack Barracks, Townsville, because of the position I held in the Central Registry of the Headquarters I came to know many officers, non -commissioned officers, and men of Infantry Battalions and Artillery Regiments either returning from, or preparing to go to South Vietnam.
One such person I met was Sgt/SSgt Ray Heffernan, Chief Clerk 6RAR. Ray and I had struck a good working relationship between H.Q.and the Battalion regarding the processing of mail, signals, and correspondence either unclass, or classified regarding 6RAR. Any correspondence sigs etc coming from AHQ Canberra regarding 6RAR I would telephone Ray and let him know they had arrived, which he would arrange to collect and commence processing. Ray visited me at H.Q.after the Battalion was warned for their second tour to commence in May 1969. Ray asked if I would be his contact back hear in Australia, for the purpose of being able to signal me and discuss mail which was still being sent to the Townsville address, and to just be able to talk about matters going on at home. I said sure thing Ray.
On many occasions when the Army Newspaper came in the mail I scrounged as many as I could to send to Ray. I also sent cuttings from the local civilian newspaper to Ray, to be used by Ray in what ever way he say fit to let the fellas over there know what was happening at home. Ray returned home with the Battalion, took his discharge, joined the Commonwealth Public Service himself, and settled in Townsville.
I haven't spoken with Ray for some 30 years now as I left Townsville in 1983 following my own career, but now in retirement reflect upon past experiences as we do, and remember those whom you enjoyed working with, and the satisfaction one got in working with those people. Could you please advise me if Ray will be attending the 50th celebration in June. If he is coming to Brisbane in June how could I best contact Ray. Regards Bruce

Edward
Gilmour is trying to track down a little more of the military history of two men:
The late Christopher Carter who was his platoon sgt at Army Aprentices School Balcombe and Robert Gilmour who is his uncle. He'd like to confirm a few details about Rob before the oxygen bottle he currently uses to breath can no longer do its job.
Here is what Edward describes found so far by accident and by searching.
Inside this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6th_Battalion,_Royal_Australian_Regiment
was this photo (which looks like it was taken at Enogerra as a pose to look like Americans)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:6_RAR_National_Servicemen_1966.jpg
and the person 2nd from the right looks like my former platoon Sgt the late Chris Carter
Christopher John Carter http://www.vietnamroll.gov.au/VeteranDetails.aspx?VeteranId=1242695
On page 10 of this document http://pronto.au104.org/Pronto_Book/ProntoSVN_CH2_2012.pdf
I found a photo which can be referenced back to AWM
AWM P01404.028. AWM link http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/P01404.028
The person also 2nd from the right with a PRC25 set on his back looks like my uncle
Robert Carence Gilmour
http://www.vietnamroll.gov.au/VeteranDetails.aspx?VeteranId=1250216
Firstly is there any way of confirming the identity of the two men in those photos; both 2nd from the right?
Does the 6 RAR Association have any photos of each soldier from around 1966?
I believe Rob marched into B coy 6 RAR in August 1966 but I'm not sure of that detail?
I've no idea what company that Chris Carter was in and I'd rather like to know if Chris and my uncle knew each other; Could you please confirm which company Chris was in?
As an Apprentice, I didn't press Sgt Carter for his military history but at the time I didn't realise the link.
I'm in contact with about a dozen army apprentices whom he trained and most would like to know a bit more about his vietnam service record. Is his company deployment record available?
Is there some record of my uncle's deployment record or his company on which operations he was on?
Having read some of the history of the battle of Long Tan I very specifically like to know if was deployed with that portion of B coy which was patroling when D coy was engaged?
I believe he was in Vietnam for just over 7 months and did 3 trips into the field hospital Vung Tau and on the 3rd trip he woke up in Heidleburg repat hospital in Melbourne. I'm guessing those trips to hospital we related to tropical diseases.
I would love to hear from anyone who can assist me with my search.
